WineInstincts: ‘Hand-on Wine Xperience’ in Germany
“No book, no tasting, no seminar can replace first-hand experience in a wine-growing region.”
Keeping this philosophy in mind, the German Wine Institute has teamed up with wineries and winemakers who are members of Germany’s Generation Riesling for a one-of-a-kind program. A ‘wine experience’ opportunity that is designed to provide young foreign professionals in the wine or hospitality field a chance to gain first-hand experience in the heartland of Riesling.
Of the wineries who expressed that they are able and willing to host interns from foreign
countries, about 80 estates are receiving young foreign professionals this harvest season.
“Generation Riesling” is the common name for the young and upcoming generation of well-trained, internationally-minded and ambitious young wine-makers in Germany.
Representing India among the handpicked foreign wine professional group is Romie Rattan Babra, passionate wine lover and expert as well as creator of WineInstincts.com, the first exclusive hub for wine lovers in India. The selection process involved reviewing applications and assessing the social networkability of the professionals being chosen. With a platform that touts user-generated reviews, blogs, expert articles and various wine experiences, Romie was selected by the Staffelter-Hof winery which is among the oldest wineries, more than thousand years, in the Mosel Valley area. It was originally rewarded by King Lothars II to a monastery in the town of Stavelot, Belgium (from which derives the name ‘Staffelter Hof’). Gerd and Gundi Klein, along with their son, Jan Matthias Klien, own the winery in Krov, producing award-winning Rieslings.
Romie, having returned to India after 10 years in the U.S and majority of that time on Wall Street, decided to follow his passion and started on the path of educating wine lovers in India about the art of wine appreciation. On this quest, he is now in Mosel Valley, bridging the gap between German wines and the Indian audience through a video series ‘Hands-on Wine Xperience.’ The videos and photo galleries will be available on www.WineInstincts.com.
